Once in college, you must consider a major - the main subject that a student studies at college or a university. Depending on the college or university, a major can be broad, like English or very specific like Broadcast Journalism. But where do you go with that major, what different types of career options are available after you choose a major? For example, four different people majored in English at college. One became a literary agent, another a technical writer, one a screenwriter, and the fourth person, a communications specialist. Although these four people took "very different career paths, each reaped the benefits of choosing a college major that let them explore their love of literature and writing" (Career World 2006). For your next project, you will work in small groups to research four different career options for a specific major. You will create a wiki page that will detail the requirements for the major - classes and what valuable skills are gained from this major. Then, you will write a detailed summary about four different career paths available to people with this major. Be sure to describe what the career entails and how the major helps build foundational knowledge for success in this career. You can add any visual pictures or graphic organizer to help inform the wiki reader about this particular major and career paths. You will be evaluated on the thoroughness of your wiki page, use of class time, collaboration with your group members, and information presented on the wiki page. See the rubric below for specific information about your grading and evaluationof this project.
